What is the most important piece of advice you would give new students?

  • The most important piece of advice that I would give new students would be to take advantage of all the opportunities and services available for them on campus. In terms of academics, the Student Success Center is always available to help students form an academic plan and the Black Cultural Center provides free tutoring and a book loan program. The University of Tennessee also offers counseling services, residence hall associations, and religious student centers just to name a few that allow new students to become acclimated to college and to make the transition easier.

How did you decide on your major?

  • I decided on my major because English was an area that I could succeed in. In my opinion, the key to finding your major is to find your niche. Your academic interests in high school could change once you come to college. So after taking an array of classes, I chose English because I liked the small class atmosphere, the creative environment of the classrooms, and having the ability to express myself through writing.

What is your favorite extracurricular experience?

  • I have honestly enjoyed all my extracurricular activities. Being a part of Orange Pride allowed me to help high school athletes learn more about the Tennessee football program and being an Orientation Leader has given me the opportunity to share my passion about my university with incoming freshmen and prepare them for the exciting transition in their lives. Both of these activities allowed me to meet people that were different from me, create friendships, and make memories.
