What is the most important piece of advice you would give new students?
- The most important piece of advice I would give to new students is to try something new. Whether you decide to try out new study habits, form a study group, step out of your comfort zone, or join an organization on campus, taking that risk could be the best decision that you've ever made. Each new experience you encounter as a student can help you discover who you are and what your individual capabilities may be and will also help you to grow as a person. You might even make some friendships along the way! :)
How did you decide on your major?
- I actually started off my freshman year as a Pre-Medical student. I finally decided on majoring in Psychology, in the College of Arts & Sciences, because of my passion for helping people. I want to have a fulfilling career in teaching, counseling, or working with students at the collegiate level and I feel like I have options by majoring in Psychology. I am also very interested in learning more about people, so my major is perfect for me.
What is your favorite extracurricular experience?
- My favorite extracurricular experience has been Alternative Spring Break, sponsored by the Team VOLS office, because of the impact that our group made in a community outside of Knoxville and the friendships I gained through that experience. My team traveled to St. Augustine, Florida, and did different community service projects every day which included working at a lighthouse festival, doing beach clean up, painting a room in the youth house we stayed in, going to the St. Francis home, and building a wheel chair ramp. We also got to celebrate my 19th birthday during the trip, and I'll never forget how much fun I had with an amazing group of individuals who chose to volunteer during their spring break.
