What is the most important piece of advice you would give new students?

  • Take it one day at a time and take time to relax. It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the amount of work assigned, but I find it helps to prioritize my work based on due date. It’s important to keep papers and exams in mind, but still take some time off every once in a while to relax.

How did you decide on your major?

  • That’s interesting, actually. I started UT majoring in Chemistry with plans to go to Pharmacy School. I soon discovered that chemistry was not for me. So I decided to explore the majors offered through the College of Business Administration and still plan to go to Pharmacy School. I loved my Intro Accounting class so much that I decided to make Accounting my major. The Secondary Education part is actually my minor. Also, I’m going to complete a post-Bachelors program in math. I’ve always loved math, numbers, and helping people, so Accounting and Education are a perfect fit for me.

What surprised you most about coming to college?

  • I was surprised at how challenging college actually is. I was a very good student in high school, but it didn’t prepare me 100% for how intense college would be. Just looking at the syllabi for each class overwhelmed me at the beginning of my first semester. Then I started practicing my own advice about taking it one day at a time, and things have gotten much better!
